Enfield Active Women's Week kicks off at the Dugdale Centre

Yesterday, Monday March 8, was International Womens Day and to kick off Enfield's Active Women's Week there were a range of free events at the new Dugdale Centre on London Road.

Enfield Active Women's Week is offering free fitness classes to all women
The day started with aerobics, continued with salsa and ended with zumba, a fitness programme set to Latin beats. Events continue all week, as follows, and are free unless otherwise stated:
TUES 9
1.15-2.15pm, Zumba, Edmonton Leisure Centre

At the time she was writing 2300 BC Enheduanna was witnessing the gradual but unstoppable move towards men controlling and abusing women. About 5000 BC I believe things were probably equal but as urban life developed and property rights became imporant and excess food meant that strong men armed to defend and attack gained power. Her wonderful poems of Inanna desribed the time of great equality. Her father was King Sargon, an Akkadian, who conquered Sumer and as Sumer decayed the Akkadian way confirmed male power and dominance. All this has lead to the need for international woman's day and I hope that one day this will not be necessary or needed.
