A PRIMARY school in Edmonton is officially reopening after a fire last year.

The children were forced to leave Houndsfield Primary School after a fire on September 20 that blazed through the school’s reception area.

Now the school pupils will celebrate the opening of the school with guided tours of the rooms now that the redecoration is complete.

After the eight classrooms were rendered unusable the 240 children and their teachers were then split between Churchfields in Latymer Road, Edmonton and later most were relocated to the Oasis Academy at Innova Park, Mollison Avenue.

Executive headteacher, Andrea Nutter, who is also head of Churchfield's Primary School said, “We now have excellent new facilities at the school.

“When we discovered the fire damage, children and parents responded well as arrangements for the children were quickly put into place.

Councillor Ayfer Orhan, cabinet member for education and children’s services, added, “Children, parents and staff at Houndsfield showed great resilience during a difficult time and were magnificent in their support for the school. Thanks must also go to the schools who offered help at very short notice.

“I am delighted that the children can celebrate the new facilities and enjoy their school once again.”
