Local musician Hayden Prosser is celebrating this week after learning that his band has been selected, along with five other acts, as winners of a music competition to find the UK’s most talented new artists.

Enfield-based Hayden and his band Alejandro Toledo & The Magic Tombolinos beat off thousands of other hopefuls with their vibrant blend of music. The contest, hosted by Channel 4, was inundated with submissions from some of the UK’s most promising talent - all aspiring to win the coveted prize of playing live on national TV.

The Magic Tombolinos impressed the judges with their intoxicating mix of world sounds. Their fusion of Balkan Gypsy, Latin, African and Middle-Eastern beats saw off more mainstream entries to secure their place as best newcomers to the music industry.

Hayden and his band are now eagerly looking forward to the top prize of performing live on national television. Winners are to be showcased alongside headline acts on Channel 4’s forthcoming programme set to run from April and presented by Edith Bowman.

In addition to performing on national television all the winners can look forward to professional mentoring and studio time. Hayden says: “I feel privileged to work with such fantastic musicians. Being picked to play a live performance on national television is mind-blowing and, along with the rest of the band, I’m going to give the performance of a lifetime.”
