The newly redeveloped Albany Leisure Centre hosted a launch event on Thursday 27 September to introduce their new free over 50s activity day - which will become a regular weekly event at Albany, and other leisure centres within the borough from September.
Fusion Lifestyle, the sports and leisure management charity which runs Albany Leisure Centre in partnership with Enfield Council, has joined up with the Enfield Over 50s Forum to organise the activity days, with the hope of bringing people together to socialise, get fit and take part in a variety of fun activities.
The launch event will offer a programme of activities including swimming, pilates, indoor cycle and yoga classes, gym sessions and the opportunity to take part in badminton and indoor bowls.
During the regular activity days attendees will be able to choose between a half day of activities or a full day with lunch – giving them a great opportunity to socialise, catch up with friends and meet new people from the local community.
Cllr Bambos Charalambous, Enfield Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture said "It is vital that older people keep fit and active in later years, and these activity days do just that. As well as fitness these activities are a fun way of getting out and meeting new people."
Albany Leisure Centre General Manger, Bob Smith, said: "We're delighted to be able to introduce the Over 50s activity days to Albany Leisure Centre, in partnership with the Enfield Over 50s Forum, and hope that it will prove popular with members of the local community.
"The additional facilities Albany Leisure Centre now boasts will give visitors a greater choice of activities than ever before, and the revamped reception and café provides a great area in which to relax, chat and socialise."
Albany Leisure Centre has recently undergone a £2m renovation and offers a newly refurbished cycle studio, gym and exercise studio along with the health suite, swimming pool and octagonal learning pool. Memberships are available at great value for all in the community and as a registered charity Fusion Lifestyle re-invests all monies received back into improving sport and leisure facilities locally.
The programme of events will commence at 10am on Thursday 27 September, with registration starting at 9.30am, and admission is free. Those wishing to attend are advised to book places in advance by contacting the Leisure Centre directly on 020 8804 4255.
The weekly activity days are due to take place in Edmonton on Mondays, Southgate on Tuesdays (suspended currently due to redevelopment works), Southbury on Wednesdays and Albany on Thursdays.
